Bakersfield Police Department's Chief of Police
Chief Greg Williamson has been employed by the Bakersfield Police Department since 1989. He has held positions in every division within the department including management positions in both the Support Services and Operations Divisions.
Chief Williamson is a 1988 graduate of San Diego State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and is a 1997 graduate of California State University, Bakersfield where he earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He is a graduate of California POST Command College Class 42.
Chief Williamson is currently involved with numerous community organizations including Bakersfield North Rotary Club, the Bakersfield Police Activities League, and the Greater Bakersfield Vision 2020 Facilitation Team. He has a strong interest in mental health issues in relationship to law enforcement and currently serves on the Kern County Behavioral Health Board as the First Vice-Chair and he is the Chair of the Children’s Treatment and Recovery Services Committee.
He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the California Peace Officers Association and the Kern County Law Enforcement Foundation.
Chief Williamson was born and raised in Kern County. He is a 1982 graduate of North High School where he played football. He continued his football career while obtaining his education at San Diego State University. He has continued to be involved in the sport in a coaching capacity for the past 22 years at North and Centennial High Schools, North Bakersfield Parks and Recreation, Jack Frost and the Police Activities League.
He is a devoted family man and is married to his wife of 19 years with whom he has a son and daughter.
