Feature Story:

19th Street Village

19th Street Village GroundbreakingA groundbreaking ceremony for downtown’s newest development was held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 519 19th Street, directly south of Central Park.  Local dignitaries including Mayor Harvey L. Hall, Councilmember Sue Benham, and Redevelopment Agency Chairman Philip Bentley participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking, along with other officials.

Southwest Consulting, Inc. will develop 19th Street Village in two phases.  The first phase of the project includes 67 units of affordable senior rental housing in a three-story structure and a two level 160 space parking structure.  The second phase of the project, adjacent to Mill Creek will be a 41,000 sq. ft. commercial/office building with a restaurant in a four level building.  To the east of the senior complex, a small food court will be built (3,000 sq. ft.).  This project is located in the Old Town Kern-Pioneer Redevelopment Project Area adjacent to the newly developed Millcreek Linear Park project.

The total cost of phase one is estimated at $13.8 million.  The redevelopment agency is contributing $3,650,000 towards the development and construction of the senior housing project and the two-story parking structure.  The project will remain affordable for 55-years.
