Cutting Ceremony for McMurtrey Aquatic
On
June 9th, 2004, the ribbon cutting for the McMurtrey Aquatic Center
was held. the new multi-use facility is located at
1325 Q street. The facility features an 8,551 square foot recreation
pool and a 50- meter competition pool. Other amenities include
a double water slide, a water volley ball area, and specially
designed interactive wet play equipment.
Mayor Harvey L. Hall
and Councilmember Sue Benham
recognized
the opening
of Bakersfield’s
newest state-of-the-art sports facility. Special guests also included
members
of the McMurtrey family, who made a generous donation towards
the construction of the aquatic center. Representatives from the
community
group that dedicated itself to raising funds for the facility
were also be on hand. Children from several local schools and the
Police
Activity League were invited to make the inaugural jump
and splash in the new pool, and members of several local swim groups
actively demonstrated the various uses of the pools
and
equipment.
