NEW
WATER AMENITY FOR PLANZ PARK
Following the successful opening of the water
spray playground at Wayside Park last summer, the City of Bakersfield
introduced the second wet play facility at Planz Park. Mayor Harvey
L. Hall, Councilmember Zack Scrivner, City officials,
and neighborhood residents the
grand opening of the newly constructed Planz Spray Playground on
Thursday, May 26th.
The new Planz park wet playground is located
at 1601 Planz Road, just east of South H Street, adjacent to
the children’s playground.
A 1,900 square foot concrete pad surrounds the wet play features
and two new light standards were erected to allow for evening use.
Above ground features include the “Bucket Trio” that
will have kids guessing which bucket will dump water on them. There
is also the “Umbrella”, providing a refreshing curtain
of water, and three “Spray Cannons” that will soak
anybody within a 30’ radius. Ground level features include
a “Water Tunnel”, “Rooster Tails”, “Donut”,
and “Ground Gusher”, all of which will envelop kids
in a cool mist of fun.
The best part about the Planz Spray Park – it’s
free! There will be no user fee to experience the new water playground,
which will be in operation during regular park hours from 9:00
a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week. The facility will be open
through September, depending on seasonal weather conditions.
Construction of the new spray park was made possible through the
use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds.
