About Cityplace
Cityplace is a new construction affordable housing project within the Mill Creek Redevelopment Project in the City of Bakersfield. It will provide 70 units of low income housing to the community in LEED certified buildings and contain 35 three-bedroom units suitable for large families plus 24 two-bedrooms, and 10 one-bedrooms. All major shopping, schools and recreational amenities are located within a relatively short distance of the complex. It has excellent access to public services and transit. It is an important component to the Mill Creek Redevelopment Project in Downtown Bakersfield. This redevelopment project has converted a 1.5 mile stretch of an irrigation canal to a meandering creek and linear park that will be surrounded by a mixed use area to include shopping, dining, entertainment, recreational and residential uses. Other neighborhood amenities include an Amtrak station, the Beal Memorial Library, Rabobank Arena and Convention Center, and the McMurtrey Aquatic Center. The redevelopment project replaces a formerly contaminated auto-wrecking yard, auto body shop, partially converted warehouses, and dilapidated abandoned commercial structures. The redevelopment project will generate 156 new full time equivalent jobs.
The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Bakersfield is the gap lender on the project and has committed approximately $3,000,000 of low-mod and HOME funds to the project as well as committing the sell the project to Chelsea Investment Corporation for a subordinated land note which is payable only out of residual receipts.
Project amenities will consist of a community building with computer room, basketball court, playground, picnic/bbq area, central laundry facilities, and on-site management. Additionally, services provided will include after school programs, English as a second language, and computer training in on site computer lab for all residents.
