The General Services Administration has announced that the Federal Courthouse to be constructed in downtown Bakersfield will be a design-build project. The GSA will held a public information meeting on Thursday, May 14, 2009. Representatives from the GSA and the City were present to discuss the project and to address questions from the public and potential bidders.
The courthouse project is being funded from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the Federal economic stimulus program recently passed by Congress). It will be constructed in the central downtown business district on a site donated by the City of Bakersfield at 19th Street, between R and S Streets. In keeping with the GSA’s “Design Excellence Program” the architecture will be compatible with the new Mill Creek linear park area developed by the City adjacent to the courthouse site.
The courthouse will be approximately 33,400 square feet, with an estimated cost between $17 and $22 million dollars, according to the GSA.
